Bearman Cartoon: Obama the Socialist

It doesn’t matter the President or the opposition, nothing seems to change. No matter how benign a comment or action by the U.S. President, the opposition has to turn it into a rallying cry. This week in the United States, President Barack Obama gave a speech on education aimed at students and taking personal responsibility for their education.

Some conservatives applauded the effort while others had a different attitude. “It is not the President’s job to lecture my kids on responsibility. It is MINE.” Funny these same people would probably wonder where the truant officer was when they see other peoples’ kids roaming the mall during school hours.

But liberals, please don’t take a high and mighty stand either.  This is the same thing you did to Bush, they did to Clinton, you did to Bush I, you did to Reagan…  My problem is that these spout offs become the boy who cried wolf.  You might have an important point on an important subject but by then I have stopped listening.

So I bring you today’s Editorial Cartoon.

  1. spilledinkguy Says:

I guess I’m probably guilty of this at times, too. Still, Bearman, who do you think you are lecturing me about lecturing other people about the president lecturing their children?! Huh?! What’s up with that? 🙂

  2. I respectfully reserve the right to disagree and/or agree as the case may be. Right now, I’m going to take one omega 3 fish capsule and drink two cups of coffee, sit down on the porcelain throne and figure out exactly what it is that’s been said here. Anybody got today’s paper?

  3. it’s the same old two party system. (yawn)…i say dissolve them both and vote Libertarian! but that’s just me.

  4. Ha!

Aren’t you proud of me, Bearman? Thanks to you, I’m educating myself so I can understand political jokes!

  5. Is that bin stuck to Obama’s finger?

  6. Why does the redhead woman have a blond son? I will tell you why. When she was a fun, happy hippie, she hooked up with her dealer and got knocked up. Then she found God, married an insurance salesman, and all is right in her world again. Plus, she is now an expert on all world affairs.

(Feel free to infer either a liberal or conservative being described above).

  7. That trash can looks like it’s flying. I think I’d be afraid of it, too.

  8. You just can’t win in Washington. I think that’s why all of the non-losers are corrupt.

  9. I love that logic: “It is not the President’s job to lecture my kids on responsibility. It is MINE.” Okay, then maybe have a conversation with your child when he gets home and discuss the things Obama said. It will lead to enforcement or disagreement of the things Obama discussed. Either way, that’s what being a parent is. Censoring television from political opposition (especially for non-political messages) is just silly.

  10. It doesn’t matter how good a politicians intentions are. It’s always a case of, You’re damned if you do & your damned if you don’t.

  11. BTW I may as well have my say about it too: How does he manage to lift the rubbish bin with the tip of his finger like that.

  12. Oh I thought I’d also mention that she’s a hypocrite to criticise the President when she’s just a cheap tart who got knocked up by blonde drug dealer. Fine example of moral standards to the world she is. Finding God & marrying the incurance salesman just doesn’t cut it in my books

  13. That is really rather neat. Nice one Bearman.

  14. Yea, either side of the coin has issues. Nobody is ever pleased

  15. you can’t please everyone, especially if you’re a politician.

As for the trash can, I thought it looked just fine until everyone pointed out it’s flaws. Since it is now a flawed waste receptacle, where would you throw it away?

  16. […] No, Bearman didn’t sketch this, there is no bin attached to his […]

  17. OK, I have been dying to say this all day, so without further ado …. Obama “Bin” laden (Laden as in being burdened)

  18. Sure, it starts with public trash receptacles, and before you know it they start sweeping the streets, providing police and fire services, maintaining roads and bridges … it’s all socialism I tells ya!

  19. Someone needs to lecture these kids/teens about an education. When I was a kid, I really don’t remember my parents even bringing up how an education is important. They were out providing for us(kids).

I’m not saying parents shouldn’t lecture their children about a good education. Let’s be honest, half of what parents tell children goes in one ear and out the other. It’s good to have someone that’s outside of family to also discuss this matter.

  20. I must say that I do not think that the democrates acted the same way against Regan, Bush I, or Bush II. I remember my parents being very against Ronnie, but there was never a question of if he loved America, or if he was trying to do what he felt was best for this country! No one EVER accused Bush II of being unamerican, or of trying to destroy this country, what was railed against was HOW he was going about it!

The things that are said about our current President are not par of the course, they are just wrong.

    • As a post script, I would also say that I don’t feel that the Republican party was critical in this anti-american way. They disliked Clinton, tried to impeach him even, but NEVER claimed that he was unamerican or a socialist! (and I would like to point out that Bills health care plan was a plan to socilize it, Obama’s is not.)

    • John you probably never heard that level of disparaging commentary b/c your parents were they type to disagree with someone politics without being disparaging. However, google Bush Unamerican or Clinton Socialist and you will see the same type of treatment.

I was not a fan of GW but I can recall thinking while he was being attacked and the Republicans took the victim role of how things will change once a Democrat is in office. Well now we have it and the Republicans are attacking and the Dems are now the ones playing the victim.

The problem is that the press pays more attention to the crazies than the sane ones.

  21. “press pays more attention to the crazies than the sane ones.”
    Thank god for that 🙂

  22. Can you hurry up already with your next toon Bearman! Geez!!

    • It was going to be about you but don’t worry, there will be one by the end of the day. Its not as easy as going to News of the Weird and copying 20 articles from there like you do.

  23. I have enough trouble with UK politics, so US stuff confuses the hell outa me 😉

  24. Same politics…different names.

  25. I thought his speech to the kids was excellent. Every single child I heard speak out about listening to it had nothing but good, positive things to say.

  26. Spot on, Bearman…spot on.

It’s just the same here in the UK, and the ivory tower dwellers can’t see why the electorate simply don’t rust any of them.
